"A new event for the 1952 Derby is the Mayor's Race which heads the Racing Schedule. Invitations were sent to all the head men in our neighboring towns to participate in the Classic of the Century and many favorable replies have been received. Mayor Lewis Green of Redmond is set to give all entries a run for their money. Rumor has it that the losers will have to pay the penalty by occupying the seat of the Ducking Pond. This promises to be an event that will draw a record gallery. The race will be held on the closed course in Redmond starting on Third Street on the west side of the school grounds. "
